GIS Day Celebration

Every year, there is a day for celebration for GIS. Although this class is in the spring, the usual date of the celebration is November 18th. However, this wont stop us from having a small celebration of it at this time of the year.

So for my GIS day event I decided to create and have a small informal discussion with my coworker on GIS, especially concerning the program he used to map out everyone's inspections in 2025. It took place in his office for a bit and it was a good discussion.

So a part of the discussion used a GIS website made by the state called Map Direct. This site contains a lot of information depending on the discipline that you work with, for example having all the location data for Construction Generic Permits or Multi Sector Generic Permits for Stormwater. Well for the purpose of our talk, we used the Potable Water System data to display all the potable systems. What I did not know and what my coworker showed me is that you can manipulate the data to just show the points by districts, by plants, tanks, or even wells. He also showed the ESRI program he used last year for mapping out inspection. Unfortunately, the app he had used updated and they way he used it last year was not going to work the same way this year. Still it was a good showcase of how he used excel xml files to put the data into the system. Then the discussion turned to my project and I explained what I had done so far and what I planned to do to finish the project.

Overall, it was a great discussion and nice lil celebration of GIS by discussion projects we had made.
