Internship update and LinkedIn

     The progress on my internship is going steady and has provided greater knowledge on my work as well as for mapping out the Precautionary Boil Water Notices. As of now I am over halfway done with compiling all of the data entries need to continue the project. With what has been done so far, it has illuminated areas that need improvement for the systems the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have. These areas being, repeat offenders who have not reported certain documents and whether some documents were put into a database or were duplicates. With concerns to GIS and the internship, it has given an appreciation for map making with the data that has been obtained so far. One of the days when I was working with the data, I changed its values to see how it would look showing certain data. This provided a good glimpse in how I will tackle the density mapping and incomplete vs complete PBWNs map. Overall, it has been a heartening experience to use to the skills I have learned in class.

    Meanwhile, I have worked on my LinkedIn profile as seen in the link before. I have not used LinkedIn much before so it was a cool experience setting it up. What I did was simply set it up and provide my all of my working history and all of my schooling from community college to today. Also per the class assignment and paper on how to make a good Linked in page, I added what skills I had learned in class to my GIS certification. This should provide meaningful information for future job applications. Overall this was a pleasant experience to see how far I have come since starting my higher education.

I have also worked previously in the Stormwater department for a few years. Module 1 - Fundamentals

    This week, in the first Special Topics in Geographic Science lab, was about Fundamentals of data accuracy and precision.      In this classes lab we preformed analysis on a GPS data in order to determine how precise and accurate our data was to the reference points. As you can see in the map below we used the points given to make an average point which we used to make a precision buffer of 50, 68 and 90 percentiles. The 68 percentile is what we use for the majority of the lab but it does later lie close horizontally to our reference point.       For my horizontal accuracy, the distance was 3.25 m. For the horizontal precision, we got 4.4 m. Module 4 - Data Classification

     This week, in the forth Computer Cartography lab, was about Data Classification.       In this module we used data classifications to differentiate our data. This involved using Equal Interval, Natural breaks, Quantile, and Standard Deviation classifications. With these classifications we are able to see the class distribution change with each map as well as learn what each one does. Equal Interval: groups data into equal grouped ranges that are uniform, however this provides errors due to masking clusters.  Natural breaks: groups data into natural groups where the data looks to have similarities in their clusters. Quantile: groups data similar to equal interval but equally distributes data into their category tracts, however this also conceals the data's true nature.  Standard Deviation: groups data on the deviation from the mean point of all of the data, this provides more errors if not normalized and also reads a bit harder.  ...
